Lion Mike shared a wonderful card and picture from Martina, a child that he and Lion Annette Ciketic had helped with her vision deficits. It was a heartwarming experience. Please make an effort to attend a meeting this month! If you missed the event, you missed a good time, good food, a wonderful talk and great fellowship. And, we missed seeing you! Fish Dinner The Harbor City - Lomita Lions 17th Annual Charity Fund Raiser Fish Dinner was a great success. The upper dinning room at the San Pedro Fish Market Restaurant was filled! There was great food, great conversation and a raffle that seemed to last forever because there were so many items to be won. Many San Pedro Lions attended and all had a good time. Hats off to the Harbor City - Lomita Lions for a great event! In the Hospital Lion Jim Trani continues to recover from his fractured hip. He is currently hospitalized at Little Company of Mary San Pedro Hospital. Lion Vince Zabica is also ill and hospitalized at Little Company of Mary San Pedro Hospital Our thoughts, prayers, and best wishes for a speedy recovery go out to Lion Jim and Lion Vince. Peace Poster Contest Wrap Up The Peace Poster Contest Exhibit and Awards Ceremony took place on 1st Thursday, November 4th at Muriel Olguin's Studio, The Loft, 3rd Floor, 401 S. Mesa St. San Pedro, CA 90731. A jury of local artists judged the posters. 15th District Councilwoman Janice Hahn attended and presented certificates to the winners and honorable mentions. Grant Ackerman, Holy Trinity Catholic School won 1st place. Roland Stein and Gabriel Alconcel, Mary Star of the Sea Elementary School, were the 2nd and 3rd place winners. Vanessa Romo, Danielle Bogdanovich, and Crystal Idibi, Mary Star of the Sea Elementary School, received Honorable Mention. We had a great turnout of students, parents, teachers, principals, Lions, artists and community members. Lion David Staley, Chairman of the Peace Poster Contest, Lion Mike Weitzman, and Lion Susan Dorsey put a lot of time and effort into making this a wonderful event. Muriel Olguin was instrumental in the success of the contest through the donation of her studio space and formation of a committee of judges. 15th District Councilwoman Janice Hahn took time out of a very busy schedule to honor the winners. Thank you all! The Peace Poster Contest winner, Grant Ackerman, was asked for a "Student's Quote on Peace" as part of the entry procedure for the Lions International Peace Poster Contest. He had no idea he was going to be asked for a quote. Twelve-year-old Grant summed up the concept of peace when he said, "Peace is like power, you must treat it respectfully." From the President's Computer I forgot to include Lion Wayne Bettis as one of the Lions who helped with the Mobil Screening Unit was at the "Justice for Murdered Children" Heath Fair at Ports O'Call on Saturday October 30th.
