Hot August Nights

Hot August Nights was a roaring success!!

Lion Wayne Bettis and Lion Julie Nicosia indicated that 
while the final numbers are still being crunched, a large 
amount of money was raised for Lions Project for 
Canine Companions for Independence and local 
charities.

Lion Julie, Lion Wayne and the Hot August Night's 
committee, worked very long and hard to pull off the 
ninth annual event. And of course, the night would not 
be possible without the generous donations from the 
local community and businesses

Many Lions from around the district along with 
members of Lions Project for Canine Companions for 
Independence, companion dogs and their owners, and 
puppies in training attended. We were honored to have 
State Senator Betty Karnette stop by to lend her support. 
Local journalist Donna Littlejohn represented the Daily 
Breeze.

The evening's meal was prepared by Ante's Restaurant 
and was enjoyed by all.  Many local businesses 
contributed prizes! Beacon House did a great job of 
setting up and cleaning up after the event and the local 
Boy Scout Troop 854 helped with parking. 

A great big thank you to all who generously donated, 
helped, and attended Hot August Nights. It was a great 
evening of fun, food, fellowship, and prizes!

Charity Downhill Race 

The Charity Downhill Race is speeding down the track 
and is almost at the finish line! This year's event should 
be the best ever. 

Lion Eddie Keyse says that volunteers are needed to 
help with this years expanded event, please call Lion 
Eddie at 310-833-2444 and let him know how you are 
going to help.

Its still not too late to sell any unsold raffle tickets, 
please sell them ASAP and send in the money to the 
Lions Downhill Race, 1901 S. Pacific Ave., San Pedro, 
and CA 90731. If you need more tickets to sell, please 
call Lion Eddie Keyse at the number above.

Members' News

Lion Joe Garcia's wife is at home recovering from a 
broken hip. We missed seeing Anita at Hot August 
Nights. But, Lion Joe was there getting two meals "to 
go" so that he and Anita could enjoy Ante's tasty cuisine 
at home.  Our prayers and hope for a swift recovery go 
out to Anita and Joe Garcia.

Lions Camp - Teresita Pines

The Lions Camp At Teresita Pines in Wrightwood will 
be having their Annual Open House on Saturday, 
September 18th starting at 10 am. All Lion's club 
members and their families are invited!

A group of Lions from the San Pedro Lions Club will be 
carpooling to the Open House. Check back here next 
week for more details. This is an event not to be missed!
