Charity Downhill Races The Charity Downhill Races at Pt. Fermin on August 29th will be here before we know it. The Downhill Race Committee members from the Harbor City/Lomita, Wilmington, and San Pedro Lions Clubs, along with other members from the local community, met at Lion Eddie Keyse's house last Tuesday, July 20th. It was a lively meeting and was very well attended. This year's Downhill Race is shaping up to be a blockbuster event! Raffle Ticket and Program Ad Sales are moving right along, but more still need to be sold. The Downhill Race Committee is asking that every Lion try to sell at least two ads in the Program. Over 600 Downhill Race fliers were distributed by Beacon House and Lions Club members, at "Music By the Sea", on Sunday, July 25th. The fliers were very well received and many concertgoers said they were looking forward to attending this year's Charity Downhill Race. The next Downhill Race Committee meeting will be held at Eddie Keyse's house on August 10th at 7:00 pm. You are invited to attend! From the President's Computer We had a great Tri Club meeting with the Harbor City/Lomita and Wilmington Lions Clubs at Ante's last Thursday Night. Carol Chudy from the Gang Alternatives Program (GAP) gave an informative talk on the goals, plans and programs offered by GAP. She then showed a short video on the GAP program. Thank you Lion Charlie Rico for obtaining a great speaker on short notice. Jeanne Wood also deserves thanks for formatting, printing up, and passing out a beautiful meeting agenda. Attendance is still down at all of our meetings and we must get better participation at our meetings. Please make a sincere effort to attend as many meetings as possible. Make attending the Lions Club meetings your priority for the day! It's very easy, in an ever more complicated fast moving world and our very busy lives, to let a meeting "slip by". Then, one meeting missed becomes two then three and before you know it, attending a meeting becomes a rare event. If we are going to have a dynamic, lively and growing Lions Club, it is essential that we all attend as many meetings as possible. Please make your Lions Club meetings a top priority! Any written contributions for The Lions Tale will be truly appreciated. Please fax your material to 310-831- 6076, email it to tomd@sanpedro.net or snail mail it to PO Box 470, San Pedro, CA 90733-0470. Thank you!
