Interment followed at Green Hills Memorial Park. Many Lions attended the funeral and the reception at Antes Restaurant afterwards. There were a lot of great memories of Lion Julian shared by his family, fellow Lions and friends. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and family. One Lion's Thoughts Now that my emotions have calmed down, I want to tell you that when I came into the San Pedro Lions Club Julian Hernandez was a seasoned pro. I, and other new Lions quickly recognized his kindly, decent, and patient manner as we talked to him about what was required of us as Lions. He truly understood Lionism and never let himself get bogged-down by petty personality differences and quirks, or political or religious preferences of others. He seemed to keep his eyes on the big and real issues: helping others in need, community betterment, and the preciousness of sight-conservation. He was an exemplary husband, father, and grandfather. I learned so much from Julian about what is important in life, and what isn't. WHAT A GENTLE MAN. WHAT A GENTLEMAN. WHAT A LION. WHAT A MENSCH. I'll miss him terribly. Lion Mike Weitzman 2004 International Convention Chris and I just returned from Lions Club International 87th convention held in Detroit, Michigan / Windsor, Canada. This is the 10th International Convention that Chris and I have attended and we had a real good time. It was very disappointing to discover from our new Governor Dick Selway, that we only had about 60 delegates from a total membership of 25,500 attend this convention. I am not sure of the total attendance of the convention but it was some where around 20,000, it was well attended by the Asian countries. Chris and I attended the International Parade, International Show, second plenary session, strolled the convention floor daily and went on a tour of the Edsel Eleanor Ford house. The parade had 144 entries in it and lasted about 4 hours, the International show featured Debbie Reynolds and at the age of 71, she still is a great entertainer and good looking. On Thursday Coretta Scott King the widow of Dr. Martin Luther King was the key note speaker and praised the Lions for the work they do all over the world. She said people helping others was part of her husbands vision. On our tour to the Edsel Ford house, we met two very nice ladies from Slovenia; they joined the Lions 12 years ago, right after the war in Yugoslavia. Their country has a population of two million and at present they have 52 clubs and 1400 members in their country, which allows them to have their own district. We extended our trip and drove to Chicago, a beautiful city. Next years International Convention will be in Hong Kong, should be a good convention, so if you would like to go, start planning now. Yours in Lionism. P.D.G. Eddie Keyse From the President's Computer I attended the District 4-L3 New Officers Orientation in Culver City on Saturday, July 17th. It was a great experience and I learned a lot of valuable information. I would like to thank all of the District 4-L3 Lions who worked so hard to provide this wonderful orientation. We are starting a San Pedro Lions Club e-mail list.
