Lions Receive Recognition San Pedro Lions Club members, Lion George Keens and Lion Mike Weitzman received the Lions International President's Certificate of Appreciation for their long time devotion and service to Lionism and the local community. Lion George has been a member for 45 years and Lion Mike has been a member for 43 years. Both Lion George Keens and Lion Mike Weitzman continue to be very active members and can be seen at almost every San Pedro Lions Club meeting and activity. They set a great example for the newer members to follow. San Pedro Lions Club President Tom Dorsey presented the certificates during the April 28th Tri-Club meeting at Ante's Restaurant. May Membership Meeting The planned membership orientation and education meeting and dinner on May 5th has been postponed. The new date will be announced here shortly. April 28th Tri-Club Meeting The Wilmington Lions Club provided a very interesting program for the Tri-Club meeting. George Cummings, Director of Homeland Security for the Port of Los Angeles spoke on how the Port is addressing the issue of Homeland Security in the Harbor Area. Mr. Cummings gave an informative and timely talk on a subject that concerns everyone who lives in the Harbor Area. Lion Sid Sioson, New Millennium Lions Club, candidate for Vice District Governor, District 4-L3 gave a short speech for his campaign. His wife, granddaughter, friends, family and fellow New Millennium Lions Club members accompanied him. PDG Bella Rosal Laureano also accompanied Lion Sid Sioson to lend her support for his candidacy. There was a good turnout of members from the Habor City/Lomita, San Pedro, and Wilmington Lions Clubs. Good food, fellowship and fun was shared by all. Mr. and Miss San Pedro Contest The Mr. & Miss San Pedro Scholarship Contest for teens and young adults has begun. The contest began April 11th and will run through May 25th. It will be held on May 12th to 15th at the Santa Maria Radisson Hotel in beautiful Santa Maria, California. This year's convention is within easy driving distance with a beautiful trip up the coast.
