Mr. and Miss San Pedro Contest The San Pedro Lions Club is sponsoring a Mr. & Miss San Pedro scholarship contest for teens and young adults between the ages of 16 to 25 years of age. The contest begins April 11th and will run through May 25th. The winning Mr. and Miss San Pedro will be determined by who sells the most tickets. All contestants will receive 50% of the monies they collect as their own scholarship. The contest winners will receive an additional $200. All monies from ticket sales will be distributed as follows: 50% to each contestant's school scholarship, 10% to the charity or sponsoring organization of the contestant's choice, and 40% to the San Pedro Lion's Club for expenses and scholarship endowments. Tickets are available for a $5.00 per ticket or 5 tickets for a $20.00 donation. There will be a raffle for a four-day luxury cruise to Mexico for two. Call today; your help is needed to make this contest a great success! - Dave Staley Student Speaker Contest After successfully completing the local club and Zone A levels of the Student Speaker contest, Deborah Ruiz will be representing the San Pedro Lions Club at the Southern Region Student Speaker Competition at the El Pollo Inka Restaurant, 1425 West Artesia Blvd., Gardena, CA. The event will be held on Tuesday, April 5th at 6:30 pm. San Pedro Lions Club members are urged to attend and show their support for Deborah. City of Hope Lions Tribute Day The annual City of Hope Lions Tribute Day will be held on Sunday, April 3rd. P.C.G. Eddie Keyse is organizing a group to carpool to the event. This is always a great event and your chance to find out how Lionism helps the research and treatment at the City of Hope. All club members are encouraged to attend. May Membership Meeting There will be a membership orientation and education meeting and dinner on May 5th at Ante's Restaurant. All aspects of Lionism will be discussed. It is extremely important that all San Pedro Lions Club members attend this meeting. Please mark your Calendar now and reserve Thursday evening, May 5, 2005 for this event. District Convention The 4-L3 District Convention will be held on May 12th to 15th at the Santa Maria Radisson Hotel in beautiful Santa Maria, California. Please make your plans to attend now. The deadline for a special $99.00 room rate is April 10th. The deadline for the "Convention Package" (registration and all meals for $130) is April 15th. This is a very important event and a great chance to learn, see Lionism in action and meet fellow Lions! This year's convention is within easy driving distance with a beautiful trip up the coast.
