The Lions Tale San Pedro Lions Club 86 Years 0f Commitment November 2009 President’s Report The tri-city meeting and dinner last month highlighted a visit from our District Governor, Rudy Salvio and his charming wife, Ludy. Our beautiful Vice District Governor, Sunshine Santiago, accompanied by her husband, Jerry, also blessed us with their presence. In addition to the warmth of our district leaders, Art Friedman, our Southern Region Chairperson, added his support to the evening of celebrities. All of them, including our Zone Chairperson, Tom Dorsey, really looked sharp in their Lions Sports Coats. In addition to the dazzling array of celebs, we were happy to have six folks from the North Torrance Lions Club join us. After the superb dinner, DG Rudy gave us a talk, which included many subjects. He discussed the District L-3 Lions crime prevention committee, which our district is developing. The goal is to develop a school intervention program similar to the GAP program, which specifically works to prevent students from joining gangs. Another topic he discussed was the development of a Lions International Calamity Fund. The purpose of this fund is to have Lions funds available to help people who are struck by a natural disaster, such as in the recent devastation caused when a typhoon struck the Philippines. DG Rudy also made us aware of a Lions corneal transplant program which was established by an International Lions committee. He encouraged us to find the means to support this program. In addition, he urged our participation in the Student Speaker Contest in February and outlined some of the state-wide changes in the monetary awards for winners. In conclusion, he encouraged Lions to attend the 7:00 pm Tuesday MSU meetings at the Pollo Inka Restaurant on Artesia Blvd in Gardena. He also conceded our 2010 roster book is in dismal condition and stated that it needs to be reprinted due to the many errors in it. San Pedro Lions Club Facebook Group.
